Vancouver Vikings Summer Swim Club

Vancouver Vikings is a non-profit, parent-run, competitive summer swim club and a member of the British Columbia Summer Swimming Association (BCSSA). The club’s goals are:

  • to introduce young athletes to the environment of competitive swimming,
  • to teach them the skills required for racing, and
  • to encourage each athlete to attain his or her own personal best in a fun and friendly environment.

Winter Maintenance 2019 – 2020

Winter Maintenance is right around the corner! Here are the key registration dates:

  • August 5, 2019 – Online registration OPENS for returning swimmers*.
  • August 5, 2019 – Online registration OPENS for new swimmer assessments.
  • September 1, 2019 – Registration CLOSES for returning swimmers.
  • September 8, 2019 – New swimmer assessments at Lord Byng Pool.
  • After Sept 8 – Online registration OPENS for new swimmers accepted into the Vikings.

*Any swimmer who swam with us in summer 2019.

The fall session of Winter Maintenance begins on September 6, 2019. The fall session practice schedule is as follows:

  • Tuesday Mornings: 6:30 – 7:30 am at Hillcrest Pool
  • Tuesday evenings: 7:00 – 8:00 pm at UBC
  • Thursday Mornings: 6:30 – 7:30 am at Hillcrest Pool
  • Friday evenings: 6:30 – 8:30 pm at St. St. George’s Senior School Pool
  • Sunday evenings: 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Lord Byng Pool

When it comes to an overall workout, there is nothing that compares to swimming. Cardio, strength and range of motion are all vital parts of swimming. Nobody has ever completed a full swim workout and hopped out of the pool feeling great. It tears you down and wipes you out, but we always come back for more because the long-term effects are so incredible. Increased lung capacity, muscular endurance, flexibility and strength are all examples of some great benefits that come out of swimming. So exactly what muscles are you using during swim practice? You have survived Challenge Week – the most demanding week of the year.
