Kiersten Gilberg

Coach, MV1 (

Coach Kiersten started her swimming career as a Viking swimmer in 2007 at the age of 8 and is very excited to be returning to the Club to coach the MV1 group this summer.

Kiersten had a great introduction to swimming with the Vikings, competing in Divisions 2 through 4. After securing the Provincial Gold Medal in the Div 4 100 m breaststroke, with a record time that still stands today, she decided to pursue her passion for the sport and trained year-round with Winskill Dolphins Swim Club. There, she trained and competed for 3 years before moving to VPSC.

She swam throughout high school competing at the senior national level for 5 years before joining the University of Calgary swim team in 2017. She is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree at U of C in Neuroscience, and plans to pursue a career in the medical field for post-graduate studies.

Kiersten has logged many hours as an instructor, including teaching learn-to-swim programs and coaching elementary school and high school competitive swimming. In her return to summer swimming, she was an Assistant Coach to the JR group last summer. She is currently certified as both a Water Safety Instructor and as a lifeguard.

Kiersten is passionate about swimming, not only for the sport, but for the camaraderie and the life lessons it teaches. She has great memories of summer swimming with the Vikings and is happy to be back on deck as a coach. She is excited to help the MV1s perfect their strokes and swim fast this coming summer!
