Vikings Annual “Blue and White” Meet

The Vikings Annual Blue and White Meet is our first social event of the summer swimming season. ALL Vikings (swimmers, parents, executive, coaches) are invited (and expected to attend)! The event takes place at St. George’s Senior School, in various locations (pool, lecture room, McLean Dining Hall) – families can access the school at the front entrance (where McLean Hall is located).

The event offers something for everyone:  fun, friendly competition, new parent swim meet training (e.g. how to time a swim race), an opportunity to meet your executive and group coaches and to make connections with other families and, of course, yummy treats! Full details below…

The Meet – New Format and Volunteers Needed!!

All swimmers will be getting in the pool, so please make sure to bring your suit, goggles and a towel.

The Blue and White Meet will have a NEW updated format for 2016… Get ready to be extra spirited and to CHEER!!

As part of the new format, this year we will have timers recording unofficial times for our swimmers. This means we need Parent Volunteers to help out! Any VIK parent who is familiar with swim race timing, please email our Volunteer Coordinator Janet here to sign up – this is a great way to get to know other parents AND learn how a meet is run.

Timing Training for New Parents

While our athletes are swimming, our NEW parents will be learning all about how to time a swim race!  After dropping your swimmer off AND dropping your food off in McLean Hall (see below for food assignments), all new parents should head to lecture room 115 where you will learn everything you wanted to know about timing, but were afraid to ask.

Potluck Sandwich Lunch

After our athletes are finished in the pool, we will all meet for a (late) potluck sandwich lunch in the St. George’s Sr School McLean Hall dining room.

We ask that all Vikings families bring a food or drink item to share. The Club will provide buns, sliced tomatoes and cucumbers, and condiments.

We have assigned food / drink based on your childrens’ swim groups, as follows:

MV2  Drinks – please bring a 1-2 Litre bottle of juice or sparkling water. No individual juice boxes.
MV1 Fruit, cut / sliced
JR Sealed package of cheese slices (for sandwiches) (enough to feed 8 people)
INT2 Sealed package of cold cuts (roast beef, turkey, ham) (enough to feed 8 people)
INT1 Sealed package of cold cuts (roast beef, turkey, ham) (enough to feed 8 people)
SR2 Veggies and dip
SR1 Dessert (cookies, squares, etc.)

 

If you have more than one swimmer in the family, please bring food for each swimmer’s group.  Please bring items ready to serve on labeled platters or compost-able or recyclable plates.

We will also ask everyone to bring your own reusable utensils, plates and cups as we will NOT be providing these. Please DO NOT BRING disposable plates, cups, or cutlery.  The Vikings have gone GREEN!

Volunteers Needed – Lunch

Here’s the first of many opportunities to get some volunteer hours in at a VIK social event. We need 5 parents to help with:

-accepting dropped off food at 1 pm

-set up of McLean Hall

-lunch set up at 3:15 pm

-supervising the buffet line

-monitoring waste management system

-clean up of McLean Hall

Meet Your Coaches

After the meet, Group Coaches will meet with their swimmers and parents in McLean Hall to share their coaching philosophy, season plan and more. It will also be an opportunity for you to ask questions!

VIK Clothing Delivery

Any VIK clothing that was purchased online by April 15, 2016 will be available for pick up at the B&W Meet! If you have any questions, contact our Clothing Coordinator Becca by clicking here.

Team Aquatic on Site: VIK Swimsuits, Training Gear 

Exciting news! Team Aquatic Supplies will be at this year’s Blue & White Meet!

They will have sample swimsuits on hand for swimmers to try on for size. Once your swimmer has confirmed his or her suit size, our Clothing Committee (led by Becca) will be on hand at the meet to take swimsuit orders – don’t forget your chequebooks (we will accept cash or cheques for these suits).

TAS will also have swim goggles, fins and other equipment for sale, so if your kid has grown over the winter (whose hasn’t?) or simply needs some extra or new gear, this will be the perfect opportunity to get everything you need for the season! TAS will accept payment by credit cards for these items.
