Vikings 2018 Annual “Blue and White Meet”

The Vikings Annual Blue and White Meet is our first social event of the summer swimming season. ALL Vikings (swimmers, parents, executive, coaches) are invited (and expected to attend)!
- When: May 13, 2018 from 8 – 11 am
- Where: Kerrisdale Community Centre (pool, and Rooms 226, 221 and 222).
The event offers something for everyone: fun, friendly competition, new parent swim meet training (e.g. how to time a swim race), an opportunity to meet your executive and group coaches and to make connections with other families and, of course, yummy treats! All swimmers will be getting in the pool, so please make sure to bring your suit, goggles and a towel.
The schedule for the morning is as follows:
- 8 am: Parents drop off potluck food items in Room 226
- 8 – 10 am: Swimmers are in the pool
- 815ish – 930 am: NEW parents attend Timing Clinic in Room 222; all other parents socialize, shop in Room 221 or watch swimmers
- 9:00 – 11 am: VIK clothing and Team Aquatic equipment for sale in Room 221
- 10 – 11 am: Feast and meet your coaches in Room 226!

Timing Training for New Parents
While our athletes are swimming, our NEW parents will be learning all about how to time a swim race. The session will be led by our Director of Officials, Jim Ellithorpe. Please email him here if you have any questions.
After our athletes are finished in the pool, we will all meet for a potluck brunch in Room 226. We ask that all Vikings families bring a food or drink item to share. If you have more than one swimmer in the family, please bring food for each swimmer’s group. The Club will provide coffee!
We have assigned food / drink based on your childrens’ swim groups, as follows:
|MV2/Splashers||Baked goods (i.e. cinnamon rolls, muffins, croissants, cookies, etc.), 6-12 servings|
|MV1||Juice (family sized containers ONLY, 1L/2L – all swimmers will bring cups)|
|Junior||Individual sized yogurts, 6-12 servings; juice (as above)|
|INT 2||Bagels (sliced please, as there is no place to slice or toast them!) and cream cheese, 6-12 servings|
|INT 1||Individual sized yogurts, 6-12 servings; baked goods, 6-12 servings|
|SR2||Fruit plate, 6-12 servings|
|SR1||Fruit plate, 6-12 servings|
- Bring your own reusable utensils, plates, cups and coffee mugs as we will NOT be providing these.
- Bring items ready to serve on labeled platters or compost-able or recyclable plates.
- DO NOT BRING disposable plates, cups, or cutlery.
Volunteers Needed – Brunch
Here’s the first of many opportunities to get some volunteer hours in at a VIK social event. We need 5 parents to help with:
- accepting dropped off food at 8 am
- set up of Room 226
- food set up
- supervising the buffet line
- monitoring waste management system
- clean up of Room 226

Meet Your Coaches
After the meet, Group Coaches will meet with their swimmers and parents to share their coaching philosophy, season plan and more. It will also be an opportunity for you to ask questions!
Team Aquatic on Site: VIK Swimsuits, Parkas, Training Gear
Team Aquatic Supplies will once again be at this year’s Blue & White Meet, in Room 221 from 9:00 to 11:00 am!
They will have sample VIK team swimsuits and parkas on hand for swimmers to try on for size. Once your swimmer has confirmed his or her suit or parka size, our Clothing Committee (led by our Clothing Committee Becca and Sarah) will be on hand to take swimsuit orders – don’t forget your chequebooks. We will accept cash or cheques for suits and parkas (no online orders).
TAS will also have swim goggles, fins, pull buoys, snorkels, and other equipment for sale, so if your kid has grown over the winter or simply needs some extra or new gear, this will be the perfect opportunity to get everything you need for the season! Payment for these items must be made to TAS directly; TAS will accept payment by credit cards for these items.
Viking Clothing for Sale
The VIK Clothing Committee will also have various clothing items available for purchase, as well as to order if your child’s size is not available that day. Payment can be made by cheque, cash or online. To find out what swag is on offer this year, visit our clothing page here.
