The Vancouver Vikings are delighted to introduce our new Head Coach for Summer 2017, 5-year T-Bird Kevin Nelson!

We are lucky and excited to have such an experienced and dynamic Coach lead our club to what we know will be another outstanding season, both in and out of the pool. It won’t be long now…can you feel it?

Read on to learn more about Coach Kevin…

Along with a fresh perspective and an upbeat attitude, Kevin brings 18 years of competitive swimming experience to his new role. His personal swim journey saw him spend 13 seasons learning and growing with the sport at Cascade Swim Club in Calgary, one of the most prominent age group programs in the nation.

Under the tutelage of Dave Johnson, the former Canadian Senior National Team coach, Kevin personally won several medals at the Age Group National level and placed as high as 5th in the nation at the senior national level. Afterwards, he attended UBC, where he just completed his swimming career this past month, finishing his 5th and final Varsity swim season for the UBC Thunderbirds, winning 2 national championships as part of that storied team in that span.

In addition to the countless lessons learned over his own career in the sport, Kevin brings years of coaching and administrative experience with the Cascade Swim Club. He has coached the learn-to-swim level, summer swimming (albeit less exciting Alberta summer swimming), and has worked with age group national swimmers and Dave Johnson’s competitive swim camps. In his experience coordinating Cascade’s summer programs he has gained experience working with and managing coaches and programs.

With his time and experience on both sides of the deck, Kevin looks forward to leading the Vikings to another successful season, building off all of the club’s fantastic achievements from last season. His mission is to build a program of success based upon principles of team unity and solidarity, guided by a foundation of hard work both in and out of the pool. Success in the pool and in life are guided by confidence, commitment, and positivity. As always, the VIKs will work hard, but will also create an uplifting team environment grounded in having fun swimming!
